UK: Most in-demand TV and film for January 16-31, 2024

Saltburn, The Oscars and Animal are the most in-demand titles in the UK for the last half of January. The chart below comes from YouGov Signal, a social listening tool that tracks the performance of TV programs, movies and brands. Appetite Score is a value from 0-100 that measures the demand for given titles by combining web searches and Wikipedia lookups. Here are the ones with the highest peak Appetite Scores among UK audiences in the past two weeks:

Saltburn is a black comedy thriller, but it’s also sexy class fantasy. The film follows an Oxford scholarship student who is invited home for the summer to his fantastically posh classmate’s family home. The film’s theatrical wide release was on 22 November, followed by a release on Amazon Prime Video in December. By the end of January, Saltburn still has the internet buzzing with an Appetite Score of 99.19, higher than any other title in the last half of January.

The Oscars, the most star-studded show on earth, was the second most in-demand for January 16-31 with an appetite score of 99.12. This is rare for a title that will not even air for another month. The buzz was is likely generated by the release of the nominations, of which Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon received 10. It will battle with, among others, Barbie and Oppenheimer.

Hazbin Hotel is an animated musical comedy made for adults on Amazon Prime Video. It focuses on Charlie Morningstar, princess of Hell, who attempts to rehabilitate sinners for entry into heaven. While the pilot for the show was released in the fall of 2019, the first season just premiered on January 18, 2024. It has immediately become one of the most in-demand titles in the country.

Two Hindi-language films also stormed the list at numbers three and four. Animal is an action-drama starring Ranbir Kapoor in the lead role. Released theatrically on December 1, 2023, the blockbuster made its Netflix debut on 26 January. Fighter, an action-film directed by Siddharth Anand had its theatrical release on January 25th.
