Super Bowl Sunday isn’t just about football, it’s about the ads - and this year’s commercials were packed with A-listers. But is it possible to have (say it quietly) too many stars? Could it be that they all end up just blending into a giant (and dazzling) NFL-themed constellation? Even more worrying: could the stars who appear in ads be less memorable than stars who don't? What about people who do not even exist?
We made a list of 60 names, of which 55 are celebrities or public figures who appeared in Super Bowl tv ads. Four are famous people who did not appear in game day ads this year(in red in the table below), and one has never appeared in an ad, because we made him up (Lamar Henry, in purple below). We asked 933 American Super Bowl viewers which ones they remembered seeing in a Super Bowl commercial. This is what they said.
Snoop Dogg came in at the top of the recall list with 42% of viewers remembering him. He appeared in the Foundation to Combat Antisemitism’s "No Reason to Hate" campaign alongside Tom Brady and others, dropping a message about unity and acceptance. To avoid confusion, we didn’t ask about celebs who were part of the half-time show or who, like Brady, announced the game. That’s why Snoop’s commercial co-star didn’t make the list.

Right behind Snoop was Matthew McConaughey (41%), probably because he was everywhere on Super Bowl ad breaks. In an ad for Salesforce, he evoked the chaos of travel. In an Uber Eats’ spot, he channeled Mike Ditka and explored food-related football conspiracies. The ad also featured Martha Stewart (32%) and Charli XCX (9%), testing the theory that the best way to sell food delivery is to throw a random mix of celebs into one commercial. (Watch it here).
Peyton Manning (36%) kept his Super Bowl ad streak alive, starring in Bud Light’s "Big Men on Cul-De-Sac" spot alongside Post Malone (28%) and comedian Shane Gillis (8%). If you’ve ever wondered what would happen if a backyard BBQ turned into a rager, this ad answers that question.
Over a third of viewers (35%) remembered Ben Affleck, thanks to his Dunkin’ ad. This time, he roped in his brother Casey Affleck and other celebs. Jeremy Strong was also in the commercial, but only 8% of viewers remembered him, perhaps because he was covered in goo.
Both David Beckham (34%) and Matt Damon (31%) made a splash in Stella Artois’ commercial, where they played long-lost brothers. While these two celebs may not be the first thing we think of in association with Belgian beer, they are still two of the eleven most remembered celebrities from Super Bowl commercials this year.
Legendary actor Harrison Ford (34%) appeared in a Jeep commercial, where he shared some deep thoughts about joy and freedom.
Meg Ryan (32%) and Billy Crystal (29%) reunited for a Hellmann’s mayonnaise ad that played off When Harry Met Sally - because nothing says "romance" like a well-crafted sandwich.
All of these celebrities were memorable enough to finish ahead of our false entries. That's not true for everyone. Jake from State Farm was recalled by 14% of Super Bowl viewers, even though State Farm didn’t run any ads this time around. Fans may be thinking of 2024’s ad featuring Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jake.
Canadian rapper Drake, mentioned during the halftime show, did not appear in any Super Bowl ads. Still, he was remembered by 11% of viewers, making his non-appearance more memorable than Adam Devine’s appearance in an ad for Cirkul (10%), and Charli XCX’s (9%) Uber Eats commercial with Martha Stewart.
Lamar Henry really punched above his weight. It’s true that he was only remembered by 5% of Super Bowl viewers, but this is an impressive accomplishment for a made-up person.
The only figures remembered by fewer viewers than Lamar were influencer Alix Earle (4%) and Love Island star Rob Rausch (3%), who appeared together in a commercial for Poppi, a lower-sugar soda brand. While not many viewers remember the stars of the commercial, a lot of them will remember the brand. According to our impact analysis, the Poppi ad had more impact than any other spot aired during the game.
With appearances by more than 60 celebrities and public figures, Super Bowl ads now rival the Academy Awards for star power. However, the deep impact of ads like Poppi’s show that star power isn’t everything when it comes to advertising.
