Manchester City, Juventus top football Buzz Movers chart for March 2023

Manchester City, which won all of its matches in March across competitions, witnessed a 12.4-point jump in its Buzz scores among UK consumers for the month compared to February

Each month, YouGov Sport highlights the football clubs that saw the biggest month-over-month increase in Buzz scores in the United Kingdom, Spain, Italy, Germany, and France. A club’s Buzz score is a net measure based on responses to two questions: “Over the past two weeks, which of the following teams have you heard something positive about?” and “Now which of the following teams have you heard something negative about?”. By calculating the difference between these two scores, we create our Buzz metric.

In the UK, Liverpool also scored a sizeable 10.1-point jump, probably lifted by their 7-0 drubbing of Manchester United. Arsenal, Juventus, and Chelsea also made improvements, albeit relatively modest ones among the UK public.

Atlético Madrid claims the top spot in Spain, with a jump of 5.4 points. The club won all its La Liga matches in March, and sits third on the table. At the second spot in Spain are German giants Bayern Munich (+4.2), who sit atop the Bundesliga table and progressed through to the next round of the Champions League by taking down PSG in March. Bayern is joined by AS Roma (+2.5) and Chelsea (+2.4) in being the other foreign clubs making the top five in Spain. Valencia (+3.2) is the only other Spanish club in the list.

In Germany, Schalke takes the first rank with an increase of 8.5 points in its Buzz score. English clubs Liverpool (+6.9) and Manchester City (+3.5) also make an appearance in the German list. Bayern Munich (+3.9) and Hertha BSC (+2.7) round off the list.

AC Milan (+9.7), which overcame Tottenham Hotspur in a close tussle to advance to the quarter-final of the Champions League, ranks second in the Italy section of the list, behind only Juventus. Manchester City (+4.9), ACF Fiorentina (+3.8) and US Salernitana (+2.4) round off the list.

Bundesliga table-toppers Bayern Munich’s performance against PSG in the Champions League clash may have been a key factor in its 7.4-point Buzz score improvement among the French public. Atletico Madrid (+5.1), Juventus (+4.8) and Real Madrid (+4.8) also made sizeable gains, leaving AS Saint-Étienne (+4.4) as the sole local club to appear in the French section of the rankings this month.
