Football’s Biggest Buzz Movers in August 2023
Following a glowing start to its Premier League campaign with wins over Manchester United and Bournemouth, Tottenham Hotspur made the loudest noise between July and August in YouGov’s Biggest Buzz Movers. The club also saw plenty of fan excitement some promising performances from new signing James Maddison.
Brighton and Hove Albion, which won two of its three Premier League matches in August, gained 3.1 points in Buzz score to claim the second place in the UK. Bayern Munich (+2.8) follows next, possibly on account of England captain Harry Kane’s debut at the club. Manchester City, which won all its matches in August, gained 2.4 points. Newcastle United rounds off the top five movers with a 2.3-point gain.
Over in Germany, FC Union Berlin bags the crown with a 3.5-point jump in scores, after winning each of its Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal matches. RB Leipzig, whose August exploits included a win over Bayern in the DFL-Supercup final, comes in second with a 3.1-point gain. Hamburger, Borussia Dortmund and FC Schalke round off the list.
After an unbeaten start to its La Liga season in August, Atletico Madrid claimed a 7.8-point jump in Buzz scores in Spain – comfortably the highest score across regions in August. The club may have received a shot in the arm with its 7-0 thrashing of Rayo Vallecano late in the month. Man City’s (+3.4) exploits in August made waves in Spain too as they take the second spot. Girona’s (+2.9) unbeaten start to the La Liga season saw it claim the third spot. Bayern Munich and Juventus round off the list.
PSG gained 3.2 points in Buzz amid a raft of incoming transfers. Notably, media reported heavily on Les Bleus players Randal Kolo Muani and Ousmane Dembele joining the club. AS Monaco, which won both its Ligue 1 games in August, took the second place with a 2.2-point jump in Buzz scores. FC Nantes (+2.1), OGC Nice (+1.3) and AS Roma (+1.1) close off the list.
AC Milan reaped the rewards of a victorious start to its Serie A campaign with a 4.1-point growth in Buzz in Italy. Not to be left behind, cross-town rivals Inter (+4.0) follow closely behind. Notably, the clubs are also leading the Serie A charts currently. AC Monza, Juventus and Atalanta also made waves with the Italian public.
