Football’s Biggest Buzz Movers in September 2023: PSG soars after Marseille drubbing

PSG’s Buzz score in its home market soared more than 12 points in September perhaps as an effect of their big win over arch-rivals Marseille in Ligue 1. PSG also find themselves in the top three of the Ligue 1 table and won their UEFA Champions League opener against Borussia Dortmund in September.

Other French clubs made relatively small upticks – AS Monaco (2.7), SCO Angers (2.4), AS Saint-Etienne (1.9) and OGC Nice (1.8).

Over in the UK, Tottenham Hotspur, who went undefeated in September, saw the club’s Buzz score increase by 4.5 points – and exploits on the pitch have helped them to the top of the Premier League table, showing that Ange Postecoglou's side are adjusting reasonably well to the post-Harry Kane era. West Ham, who are seventh in the table generated a 3.2-point uptick, while Brighton and Hove Albion (2.2), Real Madrid (2.1) and Manchester City (2.1) round off the list.

In Spain, Sevilla FC, which won two and drew one of their four La Liga fixtures in September, claim the top spot with a 4-point jump. Mallorca (2.9) gained the next biggest lift after having held an in-form Barcelona to a draw. Valencia (2.6), Atletico Bilbao (2.1) and Deportivo Alaves (1.9) round off the list.

Having gone unbeaten in six matches across competitions in the month, Bayern Munich claims the Buzz top spot among Germans with a 5-point lift. The exploits included a Champions League win against Manchester United. Leverkusen, who also went unbeaten and sit at the top of the Bundesliga table, claim the next spot with a 4.6-point gain. Other clubs that made a Buzz among Germans include Leipzig (3.0), Stuttgart (3.0) and Hoffenheim (2.8).

Among Italians, Inter Milan claim the top spot with a 7-point rise. A 5-1 win against arch-rivals AC Milan may have been responsible for much of the positive sentiment around the club. Frosinone (3.1) claims the second spot with Real Madrid hot on their trails (3.0). Juventus (2.5) and PSG (2.3) also make it to the top five.
