Football Buzz Movers – August 2024: Liverpool, Atlético make big moves
While no club across markets registered a particularly sharp gain in Buzz scores as can be the case in other monthly assessments of the biggest Football Buzz Movers, Liverpool in the UK, Atlético Madrid in Spain and Juventus in Italy led the way with substantial upticks. FC Schalke took the Buzz crown in Germany and LOSC Lille bagged the top spot in France. Let’s look at the Buzz movers in each region more closely.
Liverpool Leads UK Buzz in August
Liverpool FC saw a notable surge in Buzz in August 2024, climbing 5.6 points to reach 14.6. This uptick could have to do largely with Liverpool going unbeaten in the Premier League, including a 3-0 win over Manchester United. They are currently placed second on the points table.
Leicester City also experienced a substantial rise, with their Buzz score increasing by 4.9 points to 7.2. This is somewhat surprising given Leicester City went winless in their early Premier League matches.
Celtic FC, Brighton and Hove Albion and Arsenal round off the top five in the UK.
Atlético Madrid Dominates Spanish Buzz
In Spain, Atlético Madrid topped the Buzz rankings with a massive 6.6-point increase, reaching 22.2. This rise can be credited to their impressive start to the La Liga season. The club remain undefeated in the early stages of the tournament and feature in the top three in the standings.
UD Almeria, Celta de Vigo, Athletic Bilbao and Rayo Vallencia also feature in the Spanish segment of the list.
Juventus Leads Italy's Buzz Surge
Juventus saw the most significant Buzz increase in Italy, jumping by 6.2 points to 13.6. The club's improvement in Buzz is largely attributed to their strong performances in the early stages of the Serie A season.
AC Milan also enjoyed a significant Buzz increase of 3.3 points, reaching 11.8, even though they remained winless in the Serie A. Tammy Abraham’s signing to the club made some headlines.
SS Lazio, Atalanta BC and Hellas Verona also make the top five in Italy.
FC Schalke 04 makes biggest Buzz improvement among Germans
In Germany, FC Schalke 04 emerged as the top mover, with their Buzz score increasing to 5.0 from 0.5. This could have to do with their dominating start to the Bundesliga season with a cruising 5-1 win over Eintracht Braunschweig in early August. Werder Bremen also saw an improvement, climbing to 4.8 from 2.4, alongside Hertha BSC, which rose to 2.9 from 0.5. VfB Stuttgart and Manchester City round off the list.
LOSC Lille’s gets Buzz boost amid Champions League qualification
LOSC Lille became only the second French club to qualify for the Champions League via playoffs since AS Monaco in 2016/17. This may have played a role in the club’s 6.1-point Buzz gain. Ajax, Bayern Munich, FC Nantes and RC Lens round off the list.
