Football Buzz Movers – January 2024: Arsenal fly high

A dominant on-field showing in February helped Arsenal secure the top spot in YouGov’s monthly Football Buzz rankings for the month. The Gunners, who won all their matches in February to stay well in the hunt for the title, rose 7.9 points in Buzz scores in the UK. Arsenal are also in the third spot in the Women’s Super League table, and have also been smashing league attendance records there.

Manchester United’s Buzz score rebounded from -5.0 to 2.0, giving Erik Ten Hag’s side the second spot in the UK list. Man City, who won all but one of their games in the month, gained 4.7 points. Current table-toppers Liverpool (+4.5) and Luton Town (+3.8) round off the list.

Over in Italy, Roma’s Buzz score rose 8.6 points. The club is currently in a period of transition, having parted ways with Jose Mourinho recently and reportedly in the process of negotiating an ownership transfer with Saudi-based parties. Inter, who won all their matches across competitions in Feb and is currently leading the Serie A table, gained 5.3 points in Buzz score. SSC Napoli (+4.5), Atalanta (+3.2) and Bologna (+2.9) round off the list.

Sevilla FC’s Buzz score rose 5.8 points giving it the pole position in the Spanish segment of the chart. This perhaps has more to do with mean reversion after the club bounced back from a five-match winless streak with wins over Vallecano and Atletico Madrid. Spanish clubs didn’t make much of splash in February, with three of the five names in the list being those of overseas clubs – Man Utd, Inter and Arsenal. Osasuna rounds off the list with a modest 2.2-point uptick.

Lyon, who won all their Ligue 1 matches and progressed to the semi-final of the French Cup, claim the top spot in the French section of the Buzz movers chart, rising 8.9 points. Next on the list is LOSC Lille (+5.4), who are currently placed fourth on the points table. Girondins Bordeaux (+4.3), AC Milan (+3.6) and Paris-Saint Germain (+3.5) also feature in the list.

Leverkusen, who strengthened their place atop the Bundesliga points table, also came out trumps in the Buzz battle, rising 7.7 points in February. FC Koln (+4.1) takes the second spot in Germany followed by VfB Stuttgart (+3.0), Manchester City (+2.2) and Berlin (+1.7.)
