Football Buzz Movers – March 2024: Barcelona makes big gains

Barcelona gained a 12.2 point month-over-month increase in Buzz scores among Spanish consumers in May after going unbeaten in both the La Liga and Champions League. Advancing past Napoli in their Champions League bout to set up a quarter-final clash with Paris-Saint Germain (PSG) may have been exactly what got fans talking considering that the French club is next on the list with a 5.2-point bump in scores in Spain. Liverpool, Valencia and Athletic Bilbao round off the Spanish segment of the list.

Over in the UK, teams made modest gains. Manchester United tops the list with a 3.0-point increase, probably boosted by defeating Liverpool in their FA Cup quarter-final clash. West Ham United, which advanced to the Europa League quarter-finals, claims the next spot after gaining 2.9 points. Manchester City, PSG and Crystal Palace round off the list.

Bayern Munich tops the list in Germany with an improvement of 9.6 points. The club had a successful run in March, advancing past Lazio into the Champions League quarter-finals. St. Pauli, which won three of its four games in the second tier of Bundesliga in March, claims the second spot after having strengthened their promotion hopes. Union Berlin, Eintracht Frankfurt and Hertha are the other clubs in Germany’s top five.

Marseille’s Buzz score jumped 13.2 points, giving it the top spot in France. The clubs gains may have had to do with the team going past Villareal to book a spot in the Europa League quarter-finals. All other teams in the France segment of the list are foreign ones – Bayern Munich, Barcelona, Manchester United and Juventus.

AS Roma, who went undefeated in the Serie A in March and also beat Brighton on aggregate in their Europa League bout, claims the crown in Italy with a 9.6-point jump. Napoli claims the second spot in spite of crashing out of the Champions League, possibly boosted by their win over Juventus in the Serie A. Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Cagliari Calcio are the other sides in the Italian top five.
