Public’s take on people who work in the sports industry – 17 market survey

In a recent survey conducted across 17 markets, people shared their views on various industries, providing insight into which industries are held in positive or negative regard. In this piece we primarily focus on the sports sector.

Half of consumers view people who work in the sports industry positively (54%), although it trails behind health and medicine (73%), education (70%), and technology (66%). Our data reveals that a third of people have neutral feelings about sports jobs, while one in 10 view them negatively (9%).

Breaking down the data by region Indonesia (87%), India (78%), and the UAE (77%), the sports industry enjoys a generally positive reception. These numbers are among the highest positive responses across markets surveyed, indicating a strong appreciation for sports-related professions.

European countries show a more varied response. Italy (57%) and Sweden (54%) have a relatively positive view, but enthusiasm wanes slightly in Poland (53%) and Spain (50%). France (46%) and Germany (36%) exhibit more subdued support, with a noticeable portion of the population holding either neutral or negative views. In Great Britain two in five express positive views towards people who work in sports (42%).

In North America, Canada's response (43% positive) is slightly more favorable than that of the United States, where only three in 10 view the sports industry positively. The US also shows a significant negative perception, the highest among the markets surveyed.
