US Automotive Advertiser of the Month: Tesla
From this edition of the US Automotive Advertiser of the Month, we’re changing the methodology to encompass gasoline, tire brands and other car-adjacent companies as well as automakers. For this edition, however, another car brand won the day. Tesla, which has been in the news thanks to its CEO’s attempts to buy Twitter, saw the biggest uplift in Ad Awareness scores of any brand in the sector, rising from 7.6 to 10.4 (+2.8).
We cannot reasonably attribute this jump to marketing or advertising efforts by the brand, as it does not advertise through traditional channels or pay for endorsements. This, in itself, has led to coverage in major media outlets. Tesla’s unconventional approach has paid off in terms of raising consumer awareness (to the point where people may recall seeing a conventional ad at a time when Tesla was not running them).
But it may have also paid off in other areas. In March 2022, Tesla reported a significant jump in Q1 sales – at a time when other carmakers reported stagnation or decline.
