GB: WHSmith’s new measures for staff wellbeing - What do Britons in retail feel about mental health?
British retailer WHSmith has partnered with retail industry charity Retail Trust to offer measures aimed at supporting its employees’ wellbeing. Over 12,000 of the retailer’s staff and their families can access Retail Trust’s wellbeing helpline, counselling and cognitive behavioural therapy, and mental health support. Employees can also access financial aid and support following any critical incidents.
We look at YouGov data to see what Britons who work in retail feel about mental health.
According to YouGov Profiles, which covers demographic, psychographic, attitudinal and behavioural consumer metrics, most (88%) of the British population working in retail agrees that it’s important for people to talk about mental health. An equal proportion (88%) of all Britons also agree.
Similarly, 60% of the Britons who work in retail and 58% of the general population agree that stigmas around mental illnesses are declining.
We also explored YouGov data to see in which ways do Britons working in retail consider themselves to be healthy.
Profiles data shows that Britons working in retail are less likely than the general population to consider themselves mentally healthy (41% vs. 45%). Further, 38% of Britons working in retail consider themselves to be physically healthy.
A little over a third (34%) of Britons working in retail consider themselves to be emotionally healthy - less likely than the general British population (40%) is to consider itself emotionally healthy. 26% of Britons working in retail do not consider themselves healthy at all.
