US: Most in-demand TV and film for June 1-15, 2023
Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, Ted Lasso and Succession are the most in-demand titles in the US for the first half of June. The chart below comes from YouGov Signal, a social listening tool that tracks the performance of TV programs, movies and brands. Appetite Score is a value from 0-100 that measures the demand for given titles by combining web searches and Wikipedia lookups. Here are the ones with the highest peak Appetite Scores among US audiences in the past two weeks:
The new Transformers movie, released on June 9 in the US, is the most in-demand title in America for the first half of June. The movie is the seventh installment in the franchise, based on the 1980’s Hasbro toy-line. It’s one of three theatrical releases on the list for this period, along with John Wick 4, at number seven and marketing-drama Air at number 10.
Many of the titles on the list recently came to dramatic conclusions, likely boosting interest in early June. Manchester City won its first Champions League title on June 10, at Atatürk Olympic Stadium in Istanbul. Season finales of Max’s Succession and Apple TV’s Ted Lasso were released on May 28 and 30, respectively. These three titles have shuffled places in the top five since the end of May. In addition to online interest, Ted Lasso was also one of the most-streamed TV shows throughout the release period of Season 3. The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel (#8) and Yellowjackets (#9) also saw season finales in late May.
Avatar 2 is new to the list. The James Cameron-directed sequel was originally released theatrically last December, pulling in billions of dollars at worldwide box-offices. However, it’s current spike in demand is likely due to its recent release on Disney + and Max streaming platforms.
