New data from YouGov BrandIndex, a syndicated brand tracker that collects daily data on thousands of brands worldwide, shows the top-performing grocery stores that are resonating with consumers in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, based on consideration, value, and quality scores.
Among major grocery stores in Saudi Arabia, Panda achieved the highest consideration score (of 32.3) over the past 12 months.
Consideration measures whether a consumers would consider visiting a retail outlet when next in market. Following Panda, Al Othaim (31.3) and Lulu Hypermarket (25.7) are the next most considered brands, followed by Danube (20.5) and Carrefour (19.1). While the top five brands are equally considered by both men and women, Danube stands out for its higher popularity among women, with 22.1% of women considering it for their next grocery visit compared to 19.3% of men.
In terms of generational preferences, Panda is the most considered brand among Gen X (38.6), followed by Millennials (33.1) and Gen Z (24.6).
When it comes to brands that represent good quality, Panda received the highest score (29.8) among major grocery brands in Saudi Arabia. Al Othaim follows closely with a Quality score of 29.0, while Danube ranks third with a score of 25.7. Lulu Hypermarket comes in fourth at 24.2, and Tamimi Markets rounds out the top five with a score of 19.3.
However, when consumers were asked about brands that represent good value for money, Al Othaim overtakes Panda as the top-valued brand among KSA consumers (at 29.2).
YouGov also looked at the top grocery brands among those who are the sole grocery shoppers in their households. Panda remains the most considered brand among this group, with a consideration score of 36.0—higher than the overall shopper population.
Al Othaim (32.7) and Lulu Hypermarket (28.7) follow in second and third, respectively, all showing higher consideration scores among sole grocery shoppers.
Methodology: YouGov BrandIndex collects data on thousands of brands every day. Consideration scores are based on the question: “When you are next in market to visit a retail outlet, which of the following would you consider visiting?” (% Yes). Quality scores are net, based on answers to “Which of the following physical or online retail outlets do you think represent GOOD QUALITY? /Now, which of the following physical or online retail outlets do you think represent POOR QUALITY?” Value scores are net, based on answers to “Which of the following physical or online retail outlets do you think represent GOOD VALUE FOR MONEY? /Now, which of the following physical or online retail outlets do you think represent POOR VALUE FOR MONEY?”
To qualify as a top ranked brand, brands must have scores available for at least 183 days between February 1, 2024, and January 31, 2025. A minimum base size of 300 (N) is required. Learn more about BrandIndex.
