Latest research by YouGov Surveys reveals that 25% of Singaporean residents have used a dating app at some point, with this proportion consistent across men and women (37% men vs 33% women). As expected, younger generations—particularly Gen Z and Millennials—are more likely to have used dating apps compared to older cohorts like Gen X and Baby Boomers.

Among those who have used dating apps, nearly one in five (18%) last used one in the past three months, while 11% have used it in the last 4-6 months. The largest group (42%) used an app over six months ago, and 30% can't recall when they last used one.

Tinder leads the market in Singapore, with 53% of dating app users saying they've used it, making it the most popular platform by far. Coffee Meets Bagel ranks second, with 42% of users having tried it. Other popular apps include Bumble (34%), OkCupid (30%), Hinge (14%), Badoo (12%), and Tantan (11%). Tinder and OkCupid in particular are more popular among men than women.

Among homegrown apps, Paktor and Lunch Actually have been used by 10% and 6% of users, respectively.

In Indonesia, a third of residents (33%) report having used a dating app, with Gen Z forming the largest group (at 38%), followed by Millennials (34%). Over a third (35%) last used an app sometime in the past six months, while 41% did so more than six months ago.

Tinder also dominates in Indonesia, with 53% of users reporting they’ve used the app. Although launched in the recent past in Indonesia, Chinese dating app Tantan has seen rapid grown and has been used by 41% of Indonesians. It is notably more popular among men than women (47% men vs 32% women).

Other widely used apps include Bumble (24%), Omi (23%), and Badoo (17%), while OkCupid and Coffee Meets Bagel have comparatively less popularity (used by 8% each). Local apps like Taaruf ID, have also found success, with 11% of Indonesians saying they have used the platform, followed by Hijra Taaruf at 7%.

In Hong Kong, 28% say they have used a dating app at some time, with men more likely to report using them than women (33% vs. 23%). Like in Singapore and Indonesia, Tinder is the dominant app (46%), though its popularity is notably higher among men than women (52% vs 37% women).

Coffee Meets Bagel ranks second in popularity, with 30% of users having tried it, followed by Tantan and Bumble (19% have used each). While Tinder and Bumble are more popular among millennials, Tantan has seen greater usage among GenZ.

Apps like Heymandi (15%), Goodnight (12%), Badoo (8%), weTouch (8%) and Lunch Actually (8%), have also seen considerable usage among residents.

Interestingly, Hong Kong residents seem to engage more frequently with dating apps compared to other markets. 37% of residents who have used an app last used one within the past three months, and 14% have used one in the last 4-6 months. The level of activity is particularly high among men and millennials. Nearly half of men (47%) and Millennials (46%) used a dating app in the last three months, compared to just 24% of women and 23% of Gen Z users.
