UK: Love Island is the most in-demand TV show for August 1-15, 2023

Clifton Mark - August 31st, 2023

Britain loves Love Island. The tenth series season of the reality show concluded on July 31, with Jess Harding and Sammy Root winning the contest. As is often the case, the season conclusion coincided with a spike in online interest, which has made the program the most in-demand title in the UK for August 1-15.

Appetite Score is a value from 0-100 that measures the demand for given titles by combining web searches and Wikipedia lookups. The chart below comes from YouGov Signal, a social listening tool that tracks the performance of TV programs, movies and brands. Here are the ones with the highest peak Appetite Scores among UK audiences in the past two weeks:

After Love Island, Game of Thrones and The Witcher are the most in-demand titles in the UK for the first half of August, 2023.

Fantasy genre hit Game of Thrones has been on the in-demand charts all summer, even reaching number one in the last half of July. Some interest may be driven by anticipation for the upcoming season of spinoff series House of the Dragon. UK audiences may be particularly eager for the second season (the first was released in 2021), as it was filmed in part in Watford, UK and features a largely British cast.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 was released in theatres on May 5 and yet, at the beginning of August, the MCU blockbuster is the fourth most in-demand title in the UK. The explanation may lie in the July 7 home release on the Disney+ streaming network. The movie has a score of 99.07 in the first two weeks of August.

Demand for Transformers: Rise of the Beasts has been high since its original theatrical release on May 27. The film recently began streaming on the Paramount+ network, which may prolong public interest in the blockbuster sequel.
