The Super Mario Bros. Movie, released April 5, remains most in-demand title in America for the second two-week period running. John Wick 4 drops from number two to ninth place, while Beef and the UEFA Champions League hold steady at numbers three and five respectively. Rich-people drama Succession continues to climb the charts, rising two spots since the beginning of the month to reach to sixth place.
Evil Dead Rise, the fifth installment in the Evil Dead film franchise, enters the most in-demand charts at number two. The franchise was created in 1981 by Sam Raimi with the low-budget cult classic The Evil Dead, in which a group of college students accidentally summon a demonic entity in an isolated cabin. The movie spawned several spinoffs, including five video games, several comic books and five motion pictures. Evil Dead Rise, directed by Lee Cronin, is the first installment in the franchise in a decade and has had positive critical and audience reception. Originally planned as a streaming-only release on HBO Max, the film was switched to theatrical release after positive test screenings.
The Jerry Springer show has also seen a surge in interest following the death of the host on April 27. Originally aired on NBC, the daytime talk show specialized in tabloid-style sensationalism, featuring controversial topics and physical violence. The show aired 27 seasons between 1991 and 2018 and makes it into sixth spot in our ranking.
