BMO, Airbnb and Apple: Canada’s Advertisers of the Month for May 2024
BMO, Airbnb and Apple are Canada’s top advertisers for May 2024. Advertisers of the Month are brands that show the largest monthly increases in Ad Awareness, a measure of how many consumers have seen an ad for a brand in the past two weeks.
The BMO eclipse rise Visa Card, launched in December 2023, is a no-annual-fee card that offers rewards to users for paying their balance on time. New video commercials promoting this offering may have helped boost BMO’s Ad Awareness in May by 5.8 percentage points from 19.3% to 25.1%.
Airbnb launched ‘Icons’ in May, a strategy offering customers unique global experiences, rather than simply accommodations. These include a stay in a replica of the house from Up and a hangout with comedian Kevin Hart. Video spots for Icons as well as their regular services have likely helped to lift Ad Awareness from 19.6% to 24.8% in May.
Apple is Canada’s third Advertiser of the Month for May, rising 5.1 percentage points in Ad Awareness from 16.2% to 21.2%. This may be partly due to their controversial “Crush!” ad which shows everyday objects being compressed into an iPad Pro. Another ad introducing the iPad Pro has also been widely viewed.

A brand’s Ad Awareness score is based on the question: “Which of the following consumer brands have you seen an advertisement for in the past two weeks?” Data from surveys of adults aged 18 years and above residing in the Canada from April 26 and May 25, 2024. Ad Awareness scores are based on a four-week moving average. The change in scores for each brand is calculated by taking the difference between the highest and lowest scoring days within the period.
