US: Most in-demand TV and film for October 1-15, 2023

Beckham, UEFA Champions League and One Piece are the most in-demand titles in the US for the first half of October 2023. The chart below comes from YouGov Signal, a social listening tool that tracks the performance of TV programs, movies and brands. Appetite Score is a value from 0-100 that measures the demand for given titles by combining web searches and Wikipedia lookups. Here are the ones with the highest peak Appetite Scores among US audiences in the past two weeks:

Soccer continues to entrance America with Beckham joining the UEFA Champions League at the top of the in-demand chart. The Netflix documentary follows the London-born footballer’s career and his relationship to wife Victoria Beckham (AKA Posh Spice). The series, which examines the effects of celebrity and fame, is a nostalgic stroll through the 90’s when the couple was under closest watch by the media. Champions League group stage matches, streaming on Paramount+, are enough to keep the tournament at the number two spot on this list.

Live-action manga adaptation One Piece and Star Wars spin-off Ahsoka both dropped one spot and are the third and fourth most in-demand titles for the beginning of October. One Piece follows the adventures of the Straw Hat Pirates in their search for a mythical treasure.

Gothic horror The Fall of the House of Usher, released October 12, is already generating a lot of buzz. Inspired by the writing of Edgar Allen Poe, the miniseries follows the fate of a corrupt pharmaceutical CEO whose children start dying in mysterious ways.

Gen V, a superhero spinoff of The Boys, has followed a hybrid release strategy, premiering three episodes on September 29, followed by weekly episodes. This generated enough to earn an Appetite Score of 99.08, making it the sixth most in-demand title for October 1-15. College drama meets superhero tale meets battle royal-horror in this depiction of young “supes” attending the maybe-evil Godolkin University School of Crimefighting.
