New data from YouGov reveals that Netflix’s Korean-language thriller Squid Game dominated viewership among all non-English titles produced by the streaming giant 14-days after their debut.

The finding comes from

YouGov Stream

– a fully opt-in data tool that provides insights into SVOD and AVOD viewership across multiple platforms.

“Squid Game” was watched by 25.9 million US viewers in the 14 days after its release

Viewership data in the 14-days following each show’s release reveals that nearly twice as many Americans watched Squid Game as watched Netflix’s next most popular non-English language originals – Who Killed Sara? (13.7 million) and season 1 of Lupin (12.5 million).

Benchmarking each show by this metric gives us a sense of the scale of the show’s success and just how quickly Squid Game went viral among American consumers so soon after its debut.

While the Korean thriller has captured notable buzz and is enjoying its moment in the global zeitgeist, Squid Game viewership figures are just short of Netflix’s English originals such as season 1 of Tiger King and season 3 of Stranger Things.

Both of these shows were viewed by more US consumers within 14 days of release than Squid Game was, according to YouGov Stream.
