Football Buzz Movers: July 2024 (Chelsea gains across regions)
In July 2024, several football clubs experienced notable changes in their Buzz scores, as measured by YouGov FootballIndex, which tracks public perceptions of over 200 of the world’s leading football clubs & teams, across multiple markets daily. Here’s a look at the top movers in various regions and the potential reasons behind their changes in Buzz.
Germany
Compared to other clubs and teams, FC Bayern München’s Buzz score gained the most in Germany, from -1.4 in June 2024 to 5.6 in July 2024. FC Köln’s (from -1.1 to 2.8) and Holstein Kiel’s (0.0 to 3.9) Buzz scores made similar gains as well, followed by Buzz score increases recorded by Hamburger SV and Paris Saint-Germain (both their Buzz scores improved by 2.3 points in between June and July 2024).
Spain
Spain is one of two markets Barcelona’s Buzz score improved. Here, it grew 18.2 points, from -4.8 to 13.4 - the most significant jump in Buzz scores recorded by any football club tracked across regions in this period. Other clubs who made significant Buzz score improvement in this region include CD Leganés (+2.6), A.C. Milan (+2.5), Real Betis Balompié (+2.3) and Chelsea F.C. (+2.2).
France
Chelsea makes an appearance in our list of top five clubs whose Buzz scores improved in France, growing from 0.8 to 4.4. But it’s Olympique de Marseille (now with a new manager at the helm) that takes the top spot with a 5.1 improvement in Buzz score between June-July 2024. AS Monaco isn’t too far behind at second spot, doubling its Buzz score from 4.1 to 8.4.
Italy
Barcelona leads in Italy, with the club’s Buzz score growing from 4.6 in June 2024 to 10.2 in July 2024. Manchester United (+3.6) and U.S. Sassuolo (+2.8) wrap up the top three football clubs with increased Buzz scores in July 2024 in this region.
UK
Finally, in the UK, Manchester City lead with a modest 3.1 improvement in Buzz score (-1.0 to 2.1), followed by Chelsea (the third region the club gained in Buzz scores) and Tottenham Hotspur. Chelsea have been in the news recently for signings such as Pedro Neto and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, as well as new sponsors. Aston Villa and Leeds United tie with similar Buzz score gains made in July 2024 ( +2.1 each).
