Coca-Cola, Amazon and Koodo: Canada’s Advertisers of the Month for July 2024
Coca-Cola, Amazon and Koodo are Canada’s top advertisers for July 2024. Advertisers of the Month are brands that show the largest monthly increases in Ad Awareness, a measure of how many consumers have seen an ad for a brand in the past two weeks.
Coca-Cola is Canada’s Advertiser of the Month for July, moving from an Ad Awareness score of 27.6% to 33.6% for a gain of six percentage points. Partnerships with big sporting events may be related to this boost. The soft drink company sponsored both the Copa América as well as the Paris Olympics. This video from the “It’s magic when the world comes together” campaign is inspired by a moment from Tokyo 2020.
Amazon is the second Advertiser of the Month for July. The online retail giant rose from an already-high 29.9% Advertising Awareness to 35.7%. Many ads seen by Canadians were likely promoting Amazon Prime Day, which occurred on July 16-17 this year. The ads include Megan Thee Stallion’s martial-arts themed music video, “It’s Prime Day” as well as this “spend less on your kids” ad for back-to-school starring Michelle Buteau.
Koodo, the Telus-owned mobile network operator, is Canada’s third Advertiser of the Month, rising 5.2 percentage points from 11.2% Ad Awareness to 16.4%. Koodo got a lot of attention by transforming a Montreal duplex into a giant ad by painting it in Koodo colours. Although not many Canadians saw the house in person, the company ran afoul of city authorities. This turned into coverage throughout the Canadian press.

Methodology: YouGov BrandIndex collects data on thousands of brands every day. A brand’s Ad Awareness score is based on the question: “Which of the following consumer brands have you seen an advertisement for in the past two weeks?” Data from surveys of adults aged 18 years and above residing in the Canada from June 26 and July 25, 2024. Ad Awareness scores are based on a four-week moving average. The change in scores for each brand is calculated by taking the difference between the highest and lowest scoring days within the period.
