Snooze news: How many people in the US feel well rested after a night’s sleep?
A recent YouGov survey revealed that 52% of Americans say they sleep 7+ hours a night, but many want even more time in bed. The survey also offered insights on steps taken by them to improve their sleep quality including regularizing their bedtime (37%), consuming sleep supplements (34%), upgrading their bedding (33%) and more.
A separate YouGov Surveys: Serviced poll of more than 1,000 adults in the US further sheds light on how many Americans really feel well rested when waking up.
Data from the study reveals that more than a third of Americans (37%) say they have ‘very often’ or ‘often’ felt well rested when waking up. While 33% say they feel like they have gotten enough sleep to function optimally during waking hours only ‘sometimes’, more than a quarter say they ‘rarely’ or ‘never’ feel this way (28%).
Taking a deeper look at the data by age, gender and income demographics reveals further nuances.
One out of three American women (33%) say they have ‘rarely’ or ‘never’ felt well-rested when waking up to a much smaller share of American men who say the same (22%).
Nearly two-fifths of 18-to-34-year-olds and 55+ year olds say they feel well rested more often (39% for both). On the other hand, more than a third of 35-to-54-year-old Americans say they ‘rarely’ or ‘never’ feel well rested (36%).
Americans with an income of more than $80k are the most well rested cohort of all- 47% say they feel this way ‘often’ or ‘very often’ and 31% say they feel so sometimes. Comparatively, nearly a third of Americans who make under $40k and between $40k and $79.9k say they do not feel like they get enough sleep to function optimally when awake (30% for both).
