Global mental health improves slightly in 2023
As the world leaves pandemic restrictions further in the past, how is mental health faring in different markets? A recent YouGov poll shows that consumers feel that their mental health was incrementally better in 2023 than in 2022.
About a third (34%) of all respondents say that their mental improved while a fifth (22%) say that it declined. However, the largest proportion, 41%, say that it’s about the same.
Where are people faring best? The UAE reports the most improved mental health with 55% of respondents saying their mental health was better in 2023 than in 2022. They’re followed by India (52%), Mexico (48%) and Indonesia (48%). More respondents in Hong Kong report improved mental health than the global total, with 35%.
European markets, however, seem to be declining, with France (18%) and Germany (17%), the least likely to report improved mental health.
Nordic markets Sweden (20%) and Denmark (19%) are among the least likely to report improved mental health, but that doesn’t mean things are getting much worse. These markets are more likely than any others surveyed to say things are about the same (54% for Sweden and 55% for Denmark).
Britons and Australians are most likely to have had a worse 2023 than 2022, at 31% and 30% respectively. Germans (29%), Poles (29%) are also more likely than the average respondent to report declining mental health in 2023.
