One in eight Singaporeans are ‘very worried’ about getting Covid
Despite the Covid-19 wave stabilizing post the holiday season, latest data from YouGov Surveys conducted among 1038 Singapore residents between 8th and 10th January shows that 12% of Singaporeans are very worried about getting the infection. Three in ten residents (31%) are somewhat worried but 27% are not worried about getting Covid.
Concern is greater for loved ones, with half of Singaporeans saying they are worried about their friends or family members contracting the virus, of which 15% say they are extremely worried.
Overall, only 13% of Singaporeans say they have been closely following current reports about the number of COVID-19 infections, although 47% say they are following it at least somewhat closely.
Even though there is fear, 42% Singaporeans are confident about their vaccination’s effectiveness against any new Covid variants, but 20% are not. Confidence is higher among men as compared to women (47% vs 38%).
Furthermore, one in five Singaporeans (19%) said they are very likely to take an additional booster of Covid-19, if offered, while a quarter (25%) are fairly likely to take it. A third do not seem keen and are not very likely (19%) or not at all likely (13%) to take a further booster shot for Covid-19.
With upcoming festivities around Chinese New Year, it is necessary to tread carefully and take precautions. When it comes to preventive measures, washing hands regularly seems to be the most common precaution among all the generations in Singaporeans, notably higher among GenX (70%) and Baby Boomers (78%).
Isolating oneself upon feeling sick is the second-most common measure (60%), followed by testing on seeing symptoms (49%). Wearing a mask either in outdoor (48%) or indoor areas (46%) is also common among many, as is the practice of social distancing (36%).
All these precautionary measures are notably higher among Baby Boomers as compared to the other generations.
