Jawan emerges as urban Indians’ favourite Bollywood film of the year
As 2023 comes to an end, fresh data from YouGov Surveys shows that Jawaan is urban Indians’ favourite film of the year, with three in ten respondents saying that (31%).
Jawaan is followed by yet another Shah Rukh Khan blockbuster hit Pathaan, and the recent 500-crore club entrant Animal (27% each).
Sunny Deol’s Gadar 2 is next up on the list, with a quarter of residents calling it their favourite film.
Rajnikant’s Jailer rounds off the top five films of the year (23%).
While Jawaan and Pathaan seem to have a greater resonance with millennials, Animals echoes more strongly with members of GenZ.
Among the different regions, Jawaan and Jailer appear to be more popular among residents of South India than the other regions (37% and 50% respectively), while Gadar 2’s popularity is noticeably higher in North and Central India (34%).
OMG2 (20%), The Kerala Story (20%), Leo (18%), Tiger 3 (16%) and Vikram (14%) are some of the other favourites of urban Indians in 2023.
When it comes to Hollywood films, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse and Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One are the most favourite films of urban Indians this year (22% each).
Oppenheimer was the next most loved film (at 19%), followed by The Marvels (18%) and John Wick: Chapter 4 and Barbie (17% each).
Barbie’s popularity is more apparent in South India as compared to the other regions. It was ranked the most favourite film by residents there, after Spiderman.
The Nun 2 (15%), Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 (14%), Transformers: Rise of the Beasts (14%) and Fast X are other favourite films of the year.

YouGov Surveys: Serviced provides quick survey results from nationally representative or targeted audiences in multiple markets. This data is based on a survey of adults aged 18+ years in India with a sample size of 1080 respondents. The survey was conducted online between December 12 and 18, 2023.
