UK: Most in-demand TV and film for October 16-31, 2023
Cinematic releases took three of the top four in-demand spots in the last half of October, including Leo and Killers of the Flower Moon at numbers one and two. The chart below comes from YouGov Signal, a social listening tool that tracks the performance of TV programs, movies and brands. Appetite Score is a value from 0-100 that measures the demand for given titles by combining web searches and Wikipedia lookups. Here are the ones with the highest peak Appetite Scores among UK audiences in the past two weeks:
Tamil action film Leo, starring Thalapathy Vijay, is the most in-demand title in the UK for the last half of October. Released in theatres on October 19, this musical remake of A History of Violence has the internet buzzing. While it has received mixed reviews, it had the highest first-day gross of any Tamil film ever. In fact, it beat out Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon at Weekend Global Box Office (as well as on the YouGov in-demand charts).
Killers of the Flower Moon, which focuses on a series of murders in the Osage Nation in 1920’s after oil was discovered on tribal land, is the second most in-demand title in the UK. The movie features long-time Scorsese collaborators Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert DeNiro and composer Robbie Robertson.
Several Halloween-appropriate titles also made the top ten in the lead up to Halloween. Five Nights at Freddy’s is an American horror film about four murderous animatronic mascots in a family entertainment centre. It was released in the UK on October 25 and is based on a video game series of the same name. The film is the fourth most in-demand title for the period.
With an Appetite Score of 99.15 gothic horror The Fall of the House of Usher, released October 12, is already generating a lot of buzz. Inspired by the writing of Edgar Allen Poe, the miniseries follows the fate of a corrupt pharmaceutical CEO whose children start dying in mysterious ways. The Nun II and Bodies are also appropriately scary titles for the season.
