UK: Most in-demand TV and film for July 1-15, 2023

The Idol, The Witcher and Game of Thrones are the most in-demand titles in the UK for the first half of July. The chart below comes from YouGov Signal, a social listening tool that tracks the performance of TV programs, movies and brands. Appetite Score is a value from 0-100 that measures the demand for given titles by combining web searches and Wikipedia lookups. Here are the ones with the highest peak Appetite Scores among UK audiences in the past two weeks:

Buzzy HBO drama The Idol, which airs on Sky Atlantic, is the most in-demand title for the first half of July. The show has attracted a lot of criticism from its outset, but that seems only to feed interest in the depiction of showbiz excess.

Titanic and Black Mirror have both dropped one position but remain near the top of the list, indicating a durable interest in the titles. Interest in Game of Thrones continues to climb, even though the last episode aired more than four years ago.

Netflix only released the first five episodes of the third season of The Witcher, a fantasy genre show starring Henry Cavill, on June 29, but this was enough to make the program the second most in-demand in the UK. These will be followed up with three more episodes to be released on July 27.

Disney+ has several titles on the top ten list this period. Secret Invasion is based on a Marvel Comics storyline about a conspiracy of shapeshifting Skrulls to control Earth. The Bear follows a young chef from the fine-dining world who comes home to run his family’s sandwich shop. The second series, was released on July 19 in the UK.
