GB: AirHelp offers travel insurance - What kind of travel insurance do Britons purchase?
AirHelp has launched ‘AirPayout Insurance’, a new offering which gives members a guaranteed sum of €100 payable within days after flight delays or cancellations or diversions. The scheme is part of the company’s AirHelp Plus subscription service which offers members benefits like 24/7 access to AirHelp’s air passenger rights expertise and live support for flight-related queries.
With AirHelp adding an insurance feature to its subscription scheme, we look at YouGov data to see what kinds of travel insurance the general British population tend to opt for.
According to YouGov Profiles - which covers demographic, psychographic, attitudinal and behavioural consumer metrics - 78% of Brits purchased a travel insurance policy on their last holiday. Among those who did not, 8% say they didn’t feel an insurance policy was necessary for the type of holiday they were on and 6% claim they didn’t see any risks when going on holiday.
Among Brits who did purchase a travel insurance policy on their last holiday, 69% bought travel health insurance to cover health costs when travelling abroad. In addition, 46% of them bought travel cancellation insurance (in the event they couldn’t start the holiday because of sickness or an accident) and 45% of them bought travel accident insurance.
Curtailment travel insurance (27%) and travellers’ third-party liability (19%) are the other kinds of travel insurance Brits purchased on their last holiday.
