Victorious Man City complete Buzz hat-trick in May 2023
Alongside securing their third consecutive Premier League title in May 2023, Manchester City have completed a hat-trick at the top of the UK Football Buzz Mover rankings. After topping the charts in March and April, Pep Guardiola’s team claims the crown again in the latest edition with a 6.8-point rise.
Other teams that feature in UK’s top five Buzz movers for May are Nottingham Forest (+5.1), West Ham United (+4.1), Liverpool (+3.9) and Chelsea (+3.1).
Each month, YouGov Sport highlights the football clubs that saw the biggest month-over-month increase in Buzz scores in the United Kingdom, Spain, Italy, Germany, and France. A club’s Buzz score is a net measure based on responses to two questions: “Over the past two weeks, which of the following teams have you heard something positive about?” and “Now which of the following teams have you heard something negative about?”. By calculating the difference between these two scores, we create our Buzz metric.
However impressive Man City’s performance, the club’s jump on Buzz scores was eclipsed by Barcelona in Spain (+19.7) and Inter Milan in Italy (+23.2).
Barcelona claimed the La Liga crown. While Inter Milan did not win the Serie A championship, they won the Coppa Italia final against Fiorentina and also bested AC Milan in their Champions League semi-final bout to set up a final against Manchester City, scheduled for 11 June.
Sevilla FC, which won their seventh Europa League title in the month, claim the second spot in Spain with a 4.3-point improvement. Napoli (+3.3), Man City (+2.6) and AS Roma (+2) round off the top five among the Spanish public.
Over in Italy, Napoli claims the second spot with a 18.4-point increase – no doubt an outcome of the side winning its first Serie A in over three decades. As of May 31, the club’s score stood at 46.3 points. Man City (+6.2), Salernitana (+3.5) and Monza (+3.0) round off the charts among Italians.
Bayern Munich claims the crown in Germany with a 7.9-point jump in scores in a month where they secured the Bundesliga championship amid a close tussle with Dortmund. Dortmund comes in second on the list with a 7.7-point increase. RB Leipzig, Barcelona and Schalke close off the charts in Germany.
