US: Crocs teams up with Minecraft for AR-themed games – How many of its customers play Minecraft?
American footwear brand Crocs has teamed up with gaming company Minecraft to launch an augmented reality (AR) powered in-game experience. The launch involves two new AR-themed games in which users can “build” Minecraft creations using an AR overlay and navigate the game as their digital avatars.
How popular is Minecraft among current Crocs users?
According to YouGov Profiles - which covers demographic, psychographic, attitudinal and behavioral consumer metrics - 11% of Crocs’ customers and 5% of the general US population have played Minecraft in the last 30 days. Among other games, 25% played Call of Duty and 16% each played Halo or Super Mario Bros.
Profiles Data suggests that Croc’s customers are considerably more likely than the general US population to have played Call of Duty, Halo, Super Mario Bros, Madden NFL and more in the last 30 days.
As Croc’s latest activation leverages AR, we look at YouGov data to see what Crocs’ current customers feel about this technology.
Profiles data shows that 58% of the retailer’s customers agree with the statement that “augmented and/or virtual reality allows people to experience products and services before they buy them.”
Less than half (47%) of them agree that “online shopping will be much more fun with augmented reality,” making them more likely than the general population (36%) to agree with the statement.
