US: Walmart to expand its EV charging network - Which retailers do potential EV buyers prefer?
American retailer Walmart has announced its plans to expand its electric vehicle (EV) charging network across the US by 2030. The company already operates nearly 1,300 EV charging stations at 280 locations. The initiative is part of Walmart’s goal of reaching zero emissions by 2030.
A YouGov poll from last year revealed that installing more charging stations in retail parking lots could help alleviate a few of the current problems people identify with buying an EV.
We explore YouGov data for supermarket preferences of Americans who would consider buying an electric engine as their new or second-hand car.
According to YouGov Profiles - which covers demographic, psychographic, attitudinal and behavioral consumer metrics - 49% of this group has purchased goods from Walmart in the past three months, and 40% have shopped at Target. CVS (31%), Walgreens (27%) and Costco (25%) are other retailers that this group has shopped with in the last 90 days.
Among factors that decide which store or brand they might shop at, consumers who would consider opting for an electric engine with their next car purchase value price the most (49%).
Sustainability is another key consideration for this audience as 36% of them consider whether the products come in recyclable packaging or not. Whether or not products are manufactured and marketed in a sustainable manner is a concern for a third of respondents would consider going electric with their next car.
