US: Chipotle tests all-electric restaurant design - Do customers prefer planet-conscious brands?
American restaurant chain Chipotle is testing a new all-electric restaurant design to reach its goal of halving greenhouse gas emissions by 2030. Next year, 100 of the company’s new locations will have in place all-electric equipment, cactus-leather chairs, artwork made from recycled cornhusks and biodegradable packaging for food and drinks among other additions from the new design.
We look at YouGov data to see what its current diners feel about environmentally conscious brands.
According to YouGov Profiles - which covers demographic, psychographic, attitudinal and behavioral consumer metrics - 44% of Chipotle’s current customers agree with the statement that they “try to buy only from companies who are socially and environmentally responsible.” The general US population is slightly less likely to agree with the statement (41%).
Further, a similar proportion of the burrito chain’s customers and the general population agree with the statement that “big companies are trying to improve their impact on the environment” (45% vs. 43%).
Do the chain’s customers think sustainable practices in retail and production make any difference to the environment? Around 71% of them feel they make a difference and 63% of the general US population does as well.
