Animal Crossing in the US, Fortnite in Britain generate the most Buzz in March 2023
Fortnite has been in the news recently, mainly with respect to the new creator economy which enables creators to partake in 40% of the game’s revenues. It’s also made headlines with its new cyberpunk-themed season.
Gamers in Britain appear to have received the updates positively, with the franchise receiving a 5.2-point boost in Buzz scores in March. (Interestingly Buzz scores for Fortnite tell quite the opposite story in the US, with the metric declining by 9.3 points in March).
YouGov BrandIndex Buzz score is the difference between the percentage of respondents hearing positive things (from friends, family, or the media) and the percentage hearing negative things about a franchise in the previous two weeks.
Animal Crossing, which has been the subject of some rumors talking about a potential successor to New Horizons, was the top franchise in the US. It gained 7.6 points on the Buzz metric, rising to 16.3.
Legend of Zelda witnessed a 6.8-point growth among American gamers, amid increasing chatter about Tears of the Kingdom, which is due to launch on May 12. Assassin’s Creed rounds off the list in the US, with a 5.9-point jump in scores.
Over in Britain, League of Legends claims the second spot, rising by 3.7 points. This could be partially influenced by the start of 2023 LEC Spring event in the first half of March. Roblox rounds off the top three among British gamers with a 2.8-point jump.

Methodology: YouGov BrandIndex collects data on major video gaming franchises. Buzz score is based on the questions: “Over the past two weeks, which of the following video games have you heard something positive about?” and “Now which of the following video games have you heard something negative about?” and delivered as a net score between –100 and +100. Scores reported represent the change between the 30-day daily average between January 27 – February 25, 2023 and February 27 – March 27, 2023. Scores are based on an average sample size of 266 gamers in Great Britain and 468 in the US. Daily figures are based on a four-week moving average.
