US: JBL announces eco-friendly speakers – Could such products find takers among customers?
With sustainability in mind, audio equipment manufacturer and retailer, JBL, has announced eco-friendly versions of its portable Bluetooth speakers, Go 3 and Clip 4, at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2023. The new models - suffixed with ‘Eco’ in their names - use 90% post-consumer recycled (PCR) plastic for their main chassis, 100% recycled fabric for their speaker grille, and come in eco-friendly packaging. The Go 3 Eco ($50) and Clip 4 Eco ($80) will be available on Earth Day, 22 April, 2023.
Does sustainability matter to JBL’s current customers?
According to YouGov Profiles - which covers demographic, psychographic, attitudinal and behavioral consumer metrics - 60% of JBL’s consumers tend to agree or definitely agree with the statement that they “prefer brands that are sustainable.”
About as many (56%) of the general US population agree with the statement as well.
Data from Profiles also suggests that 14% of the American retailer’s customers claim to regularly buy products made from sustainable/ethical materials. Nearly half of them (49%) either buy such products often or sometimes.
