US and UK: Buzz movers among video game franchises in July
Animal Crossing takes the top spot in this month’s Video Game Buzz Movers, rising 7.6 points from 9 to 16.6 among gamers in the US.
The franchise has a knack of staying in the limelight as gaming-focused websites report on gamers creating unique scenes or situations within the game. There has also been some fan chatter about Nintendo developing the next major release for the franchise.
League of Legends rose 4.7 points on the Buzz meter, amid official news that the franchise’s fighting game – Project L – will be free-to-play. World of Warcraft also witnessed a 4.7-point spike among American gamers.
Among British gamers, Overwatch generated the biggest spike in Buzz. The franchise has been in the headlines ahead of the launch of its upcoming title Overwatch 2, which will be free to play.
Gears of War, which is rumored to be developing a new game based on a job posting, witnessed a 2.4-point bump in Buzz scores. Apex Legends rounds off the list among gamers in Britain with a 2-point increase in its Buzz score.

Methodology: YouGov BrandIndex collects data on major video gaming franchises. Buzz score is based on the questions: “Over the past two weeks, which of the following video games have you heard something positive about?” and “Now which of the following video games have you heard something negative about?” and delivered as a net score between –100 and +100. Scores reported represent the change between the 30-day daily average between June 10 – July 9, 2022 and July 10 – August 8, 2022. Scores are based on an average daily sample size of 260 gamers in Great Britain and 494 in the US. Daily figures are based on a four-week moving average.
