These tech gadgets are on consumers’ holiday wish lists

YouGov - October 22nd, 2021

What do consumers want this holiday season? Devices that connect them to 5G, tech that lets them freely listen to music or podcasts, and products that free them from the burden of cleaning their floors.

A global survey conducted by YouGov in 17 markets shows, if money or availability were no object, consumers most want a 5G phone (38%), robot vacuum (34%), and wireless earphones (30%).

After these items, smart home tech also appears on our list, such as video doorbells (24%) and smart speakers (19%).

Roughly one in five consumers surveyed also listed fitness technology like wearable trackers (21%) or connected exercise equipment such as Peloton as desired tech.

Next-gen gaming consoles are likely to be hard to purchase thanks to the global chip shortage, but 22% of consumers want a PlayStation 5 and 13% want an Xbox Series S|X.

Gaming consoles are more wanted by those age 18-24, but the younger age group doesn’t stray far from the overall sample, most wanting wireless earphones (44%), 5G smartphones (42%), and robot vacuums (34%)

Looking closer at the 17 markets, we see the robot vacuum (34%) top the list for developed markets, while a 5G phone is most coveted in emerging markets (48%).
