How many Americans are working from home?

As the COVID-19 outbreak continues to spread, health officials are strongly encouraging people to practice “social distancing,” which means generally avoiding mass gatherings and maintaining distance (approximately 6 feet) from others when possible.

As a result, many businesses are asking -- or requiring -- that their employees work remotely.

In an exclusive Cheddar/YouGov poll conducted earlier this week, 28 percent of respondents said that they are currently working from home. And many had prior experience working from home as well.

“Among that group who had previously worked from home, they had very high confidence in their ability to be productive while at home,” said Ted Marzilli, the CEO of YouGov Direct, in an exclusive interview with Cheddar.

In this survey, a plurality (29%) of respondents said that they are equally as productive at home as they are at the office. An additional one in five (20%) actually say that being at home makes them more productive than being at the office.

Those US adults who have prior experience working from home (33%) are especially likely to say that they are more productive at home.
