Friends, The Crown and The Big Bang Theory: The UK’s most-streamed TV, December 2023

The Crown finale, released on December 14, helped make the historical drama the second-most-streamed title for the month. Based on the life of Queen Elizabeth II, the program is a hit on both sides of the Atlantic.

The data comes from YouGov Stream, which collects global viewership data from a panel of more than 160,000 accounts. The chart below shows how many views and viewers each title had on the platform where it was most popular.  The chart also shows the average number of views per viewer (Vs/Vr), an indicator of how much consumers are bingeing a particular title.

Also on the top of the list are the usual bingeable American sitcoms: The Big Bang Theory, Friends, The Office, Brooklyn Nine-Nine. Each has significantly more views per viewer than any new release. Big Bang Theory fans binged significantly harder than the others, streaming an average of 52 episodes per viewer last month.

Squid Game: The Challenge released the last half of its first season at the end of November, giving the series all of December to rack up fresh views, 33 million in all. Squid Game: Competition is a British reality competition show based on the fictional South Korean competition show.
