Young Sheldon, The Crown and Reacher are the most-streamed titles in America for December 2023. The chart below shows how many views and viewers each title had on the platform where it was most popular. The chart also shows the average number of views per viewer (Vs/Vr), which is an indicator of how much consumers are bingeing a particular title.
Young Sheldon, long a streaming favourite in the UK, was added to Netflix’s US roster at the end of November. The result is that it is the most-binged and most-streamed title overall in December, with 235 million views from a large but hard core of 9.1 million viewers. This means that, since its release on Netflix, the average Young Sheldon viewer viewed 26 episodes of the spinoff comedy in December. Young Sheldon is apparently experiencing the same “Netflix effect” that made Suits the surprise streaming hit of the summer.
The final six episodes of The Crown were released on December 14, leaving it just half a month to become the second-most-streamed title in the US for December. Based on the life of Queen Elizabeth II, the historical drama is a hit on both sides of the Atlantic.
Feature films rarely make the most-streamed lists because they can’t draw on a season or long back catalogue of episodes to rack up more views. It’s a movie. There’s only one episode. However, apocalyptic thriller Leave the World Behind did make the list with 65 million views for 61 million viewers. Starring Julia Roberts, the film was well-received by critics, but received less favourable audience ratings.
