Britons love Sheldon Cooper. The spin-off series Young Sheldon, which follows the awkward science prodigy as a child, and The Big Bang Theory, where the character first appeared, are the two most-streamed shows in the UK for July, 2023. American sitcom The Office is third. The data comes from YouGov Stream, an opt-in online behaviour tracker that collects global viewership data from a panel of more than 160,000 activated accounts. The chart below shows how many views and viewers each title had on the platform where it was most popular. The chart also shows the average number of views per viewer (Vs/Vr), which is an indicator of how much consumers are bingeing a particular title.
The fifth season of boy genius sitcom Young Sheldon was released on Netflix in the UK on July 5, helping to make the show the most-streamed title in the UK for the month. It helps that the Big Bang Theory prequel is very bingeable, with 2.7m viewers watching an average of 25 episodes each.
Of all the shows on the top ten list, The Big Bang Theory had the smallest but most committed viewership. While only 1.1m viewers watched the science-based comedy, each of them watched an average of 55 episodes in July, making it the second-most streamed title in the UK.
Netflix only released the first five episodes of the third season of The Witcher, a fantasy genre show starring Henry Cavill, on June 29, but this was enough to attract over 6m viewers and make the show the fourth most-streamed in July.
Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan, the sixth most-streamed title in July, is the only non-Netflix show to make the top-ten list this month. The fourth and final season of the spy thriller was released in pairs on Amazon Prime Video starting on June 30, 2023.
