America’s most-streamed TV, February 2023: You, New Amsterdam and Outer Banks

You, New Amsterdam and Outer Banks are the most-streamed TV shows in America for February. The data comes from YouGov Stream, which is an opt-in online behaviour tracker which collects global viewership data from a panel of more than 160,000 activated accounts. The chart below shows how many views and viewers each title had on the platform where it was most popular.

The most-streamed title on any one platform for February is Netflix’s serial-killer-in-love series, You. Now in its fourth season, the thriller follows the romantic obsessions of handsome murderer Joe Goldberg, played by Penn Badgley. Netflix released the first half of the fourth season on February 9. The program was streamed 193.2m times by 33.8m viewers last month, meaning that the average viewer watched over five episodes of the season.

YouGov Signal, a tool that tracks online discussion of media titles and other topics, shows that You has been creating mixed feelings. According to Signal, the online sentiment expressed in online conversation is split between 44% positive and 33% negative sentiment, with only 17% of online comments being neutral. You seems most provocative among women, who make up 69% of the audience discussing the series online.

The only documentary series on the list is another crime series. Murdaugh Murders: A Southern Scandal is a three-part mini-series tells the story of the Murdaugh family’s rise to power and prominence and the series of deaths that have brought them low. With only three episodes, it’s already racked up 46.5m streams among 19.3m viewers.

Physical: 100, with over 37m views in February, is the only non-English-language title on the list. The South Korean reality competition show pits 100 physically fit competitors, including national athletes and fitness influencers, in a series of ‘quests’ of strength, endurance, skill and willpower. According to Signal data, the show is especially popular among fans of the 2021 hit Squid Game.
