US: Blumhouse Productions enters the gaming space - How big is the Horror games market in the US?
American production company, Blumhouse Productions, forays intothe world of video games with a new division called ‘Blumhouse Games’. Known for its work in the horror space with productions like Paranormal Activity, Get Out and more recently, M3gan, the company will focus on “original, horror-themed games for console, PC and mobile audiences.” In its new venture, Blumhouse will act as a publisher and work with developers on projects worth “below $10 million.”
What genre of games do Americans play?
According to YouGov Profiles - which covers demographic, psychographic, attitudinal and behavioral consumer metrics - just 8% of the general US population plays horror-genre games - the ideal target audience for Blumhouse Productions’ video gaming aspirations.
At 22%, Americans personally play action/adventure games and an equal proportion of them play casual games. First person shooter games (15%), racing games (15%) and strategy games (13%) are other popular choices among the general US population.
