With the new year upon us, many Americans are resolving to make changes this year. New Year’s resolutions provide insight into people’s frame of mind and what they’ll focus on to improve their lifestyle for the year ahead.

Improving one’s physical health is the top priority this year, according to data from a YouGov poll. Roughly two-fifths (42%) of US adults resolve to better their physical health. Mental well-being is also a big focus this year, with a quarter (24%) making a resolution to improve their mental health.

Inflation appears to be cooling off in the US, but personal finances remain top-of-mind for many people. A quarter (27%) of US adults say they’ll make a resolution to manage their money better this year. On this resolution, women (30%) are more likely than men (24%) to say they’ll make managing their financial situation a focus this year.

Another popular resolution is to spend more time with loved ones, with 24% of US adults saying they want to make this a goal this year. Many are also looking for a digital detox of some type, with 13% saying they want to spend less time on social media and 12% saying they want to reduce the amount of time they’re on their phones.

2023 marks a time when 16% of US adults aspire to travel more. Data from YouGov DestinationIndex, which tracks more than 130 travel destinations across 25 tourism markets, reveals domestic destinations such as Florida (28.3% would consider traveling to this destination), Hawaii (24.7), California (22.4%), New York (21.6%) and Arizona (17.2%) are among the most popular among US adults this year. Italy (23.8%), Canada (21.5%), the UK (21.5%), Scotland (18.6%), and Spain are among the top considered international destinations so far this year.

Roughly one in nine (13%) consumers say they intend to make more sustainable purchases this year and 7% intend to stop or reduce their consumption of alcohol.
