Nearly two-thirds of Americans have a positive impression of Queen

Half of Americans have a positive impression of Freddie Mercury

The film Bohemian Rhapsody, a biographical film about the British rock band Queen, is set to be released in the US on November 2. The film centers around Freddie Mercury, the lead vocalist of Queen who wrote some of the band’s greatest hits like "Bohemian Rhapsody," “We Are the Champions,” “Killer Queen,” and several others.

According to data from YouGov Ratings, nearly two-thirds (65%) of Americans have a positive opinion about the band Queen. The band tends to be most popular with Gen X and Baby Boomers, with 69% and 68%, respectively, having positive opinions. Another 17% of Americans are neutral, 6% are negative, and 13% have never heard of the band. As for Mercury individually, half (50%) of Americans have a positive opinion of him, while only 6% feel negatively. He tends to be more popular with men (56% feel positively) than with women (45%).

In the movie “Bohemian Rhapsody”, actor Rami Malek plays Freddie Mercury. Over half (54%) of Americans don’t know who Rami Malek is, but perhaps his starring role as Freddie Mercury could soon change that.

Another 28% have a positive impression of Malek, while only 3% have a negative impression, according to YouGov Ratings. Previously, his best-known work was as the lead of the TV show Mr. Robot, for which Malek earned an Emmy. One in five (20%) Americans has a positive impression of the show, while 9% feel negatively and 49% haven’t heard of it.
