Airbnb is the most popular booking platform among Singaporean digital nomads and aspirants

A new YouGov Survey reveals that Airbnb is the most popular platform for booking accommodation among a third of Singaporeans who have previously been digital nomads or aspire to be (32%).

It is particularly appealing to GenZ (at 45%), followed by millennials (36%), as compared to GenX and Baby Boomers (25% and 23%).

Airbnb is also favoured more by those who are in a relationship but not married (at 48%) compared to married respondents (27%).

Booking.com is chosen by a quarter as their most favoured platform (24%), while one in ten (11%) prefer booking through Expedia.

According to YouGov data, 36% of Singaporeans have been digital nomads at some point in their lives. Among those who haven't, opinions are evenly split, with half considering digital nomadism a potential lifestyle choice while the other half rejecting the prospect.

Among both current digital nomads and those considering it, short-term holiday rentals are the most preferred accommodation choice (36%). This option is particularly more popular among females (42% vs 32% males), as well as GenZ and Millennials (42% each) as compared to other generations.

Additionally, nearly three in ten prefer serviced apartments (29%) or hotels (28%).

When asked to rank priorities when booking accommodation as a digital nomad, safety emerged as a top concern for two-thirds of respondents (67%). Women (72%) and GenX respondents (73%) were more likely than others to prioritize safety.

Cost is the second priority, with 56% of respondents choosing it as their primary concern. It is particularly more important among GenX respondents (61%) as compared to others.

Location, chosen by almost half (49%) follows next- rounding out the top 3 priorities among digital nomads when booking accommodation.

Methodology: YouGov Surveys: Serviced provides quick survey results from nationally representative or targeted audiences in multiple markets. This study was conducted online between 6 and 10 June 2024, with a national sample of 882 Singaporeans, using a questionnaire designed by YouGov. Data figures have been weighted by age, gender, and location to be representative of all working adults in Singapore (18 years or older) as per the latest population estimates.
