A majority of Singaporeans who have seen Baby reindeer believe Richard Gadd's story
Overall, one in six Singaporeans have seen the show, with GenZ being the most avid watchers
A new YouGov survey has found that one in six Singaporeans say they have watched Baby Reindeer (in part or full), Netflix’s new show that has taken the world by storm. The majority, however, have not seen the show yet (69%).
Gen Z were the most avid watchers, with 23% of the generation having tuned in. This was followed by 21% of Millennials and 15% of Gen X, with only 9% of Baby Boomers having seen the show.
Of those who’d seen Baby Reindeer, a third (33%) thought the show was very good, while the majority (53%) described it as “somewhat good”.
Less than one in ten (8%) found their viewing experience as “bad” or “somewhat bad”, and 7% were unsure.
The GenZ seem to have enjoyed the show the most with half of those who have watched it calling the experience very good.
After watching the show, two in five Singaporeans said they read or watched more content around the show such as interviews, debates, etc. (42%). GenZ were the largest proportion of respondents to say this (at 61%).
After this, 36% googled Richard Gadd and read more about his life, while another third (32%) searched and read more about his real-life stalker. 17% participated in online discussions around the show and a fourth did not do anything (26%).
Of those who watched Baby Reindeer, and subsequently looked more into the story, 62% said they believe Richard Gadd’s side of events. However, one in five (20%) have expressed belief in Fiona’s (identified as his stalker) version of the story.
It is interesting to note that millennials and GenX were more likely to say they believe Richard Gadd’s side of story (63% and 61% respectively) as compared to GenZ (49%). On the other hand, belief in Fiona’s version is similar across generations.
There isn’t much difference between the genders. Even though more people are likely to say they believe Richard Gadd’s side of the story- this sentiment is the same among men and women.
