Exploring American’s interest in AI apps – who's engaged and who’s not?

A recent YouGov survey asked 1,215 US adults about their interest in various types of AI applications.

Regarding AI apps that generate images from text prompts, three in five adults aged 18-34 expressed interest. This number declines with age, with only 17% of adults over 55 showing interest. Overall, 38% of all adults indicated they are interested in using these apps.

For AI apps that create new music compositions, interest the lowest at just three in ten Americans. Young adults aged 18-34 again lead in enthusiasm at 53%, followed by 32% of adults aged 35-54.

In the case of AI apps for personalized workout plans, 57% of the 18-34 age group expressed interest, the highest among the categories surveyed. Interest decreases to 42% in the 35-54 age group and drops significantly to 18% for those over 55.

For AI budgeting assistance apps, 36% of Americans expressed interest. This trend is most pronounced among younger adults aged 18-34, where over half (56%) show interest, while the figures progressively decline with age—41% for the 35-54 group and only 18% for those 55 and older.

Our findings suggest that a majority of US adults are not particularly interested in AI apps for creating images, music, personalized workouts, or budgeting. However, there is a notable exception within the 18-34 age group, where a significant majority shows interest in these innovative applications, highlighting a generational divide in the acceptance and enthusiasm for AI-powered tools.
