US: Gauging consumer appetite for types of in-car health tech

The automotive industry is constantly upgrading cars, fueled by advancements in technology such as electrification, autonomous driving, and other cutting-edge innovations. In this article, we delve into the health and wellness technologies that US consumers want to see in their upcoming cars.

Air quality monitoring takes the lead, with almost half of the surveyed consumers expressing a keen interest in this feature (49%). This preference is consistent across all age groups, indicating a universal appeal for information about environmental conditions.

Fatigue detection and noise cancellation closely follow, garnering attention from 47% of respondents each. Interestingly, consumers aged 55 and above are particularly interested in both these features, with 53% expressing a desire for each. However, among middle-aged consumers, fatigue detection (51%) takes precedence over noise cancellation (42%). In contrast, our younger demographic (18-34 years old) shows a lower interest in these features (37%). Notably, posture monitoring piques the interest of 41% of this younger age group.

Posture monitoring captures the interest of one-third of the overall respondents (33%). While the 35-54 age group aligns with this sentiment (33%), fewer consumers aged 55 and above show enthusiasm, with only 26% expressing interest.

Younger consumers consistently outpace both overall respondents and their older counterparts, exhibiting a higher inclination toward the mentioned health tech features.

Around three in ten of all respondents express a desire for heart rate monitoring (30%), stress level monitoring (29%), and UV-C light sanitization (27%). However, among 18-34-year-olds, these figures increase to 38%, 35%, and 30%, respectively.

The data reflects a clear trend: as technology continues to advance, the younger generation emerges as the driving force behind the demand for futuristic in-car health tech features.
