US auto accessory and tire retailers - Who is fast and with whom are consumers furious?

According to recent data from YouGov Profiles, four out of five Americans own at least one car (80%) while more than a quarter intend to purchase a new, used and/or certified pre-owned car in the next 12 months (29%). Together with American motorists’ increasing demands to personalize aesthetics and amplify functionality - from sleek, high-tech gadgets that redefine the driving experience to high-performance tires that adapt to diverse terrains - these numbers indicate robust potential for the auto accessories and tires market in the US today. 

But with the many players in this growing market, which auto accessories and tire brands are actually the most considered by prospective American car buyers?

Data from YouGov BrandIndex reveals that AutoZone earned the highest Consideration score - a metric which tracks which brands consumers are most likely to consider the next time they’re in the market to make a purchase - between July 25, 2023, and October 24, 2023. The American auto parts retailer - which recently posted better-than-expected fourth quarter results, boosted by its do-it-yourself (DIY) automotive parts - scored 38.8 percentage points during the 3-month period.

In second place, O’Reilly Auto Parts, registers a score of 27.3 points, followed by Advance Auto Parts (25.5) and French multinational tire manufacturer Michelin (25.4).

Rounding out the top five, Goodyear – the American multinational tire manufacturer which recently announced rationalization plans for its APAC segment following its restructuring drive in Europe, Middle East and Africa – scores 23.5 percentage points. 

The gap continues to narrow as we move down the list- Napa Auto Parts (20.5), Mobil 1 (20.4) and Japanese tire brand Bridgestone (20.2) close out the top ten.
