How do consumers prefer logging in to gambling apps?

Consumers today have a range of unlocking methods to choose from when it comes to logging in to their apps - biometric security, manually entering passwords, entering OTPs and code, and now, Google’s new passkeys feature. But do consumers prefer one unlocking method over another?

Previously published YouGov pieces discussed consumers’ unlocking preferences to log in to banking and social network apps. Here, we zero in on gambling apps, asking consumers across 12 international markets about the type of unlocking methods they prefer to use when logging in to these apps.

Manually entering passwords (13%) and biometric security like face unlock and fingerprint scanner (12%) are the top two methods consumers seem inclined towards to log in to gambling apps. Less than one in ten consumers prefer logging in to gambling apps via the remember password feature (8%), OTP or code received via message and email (7%) and authentication apps (4%).

By country, unlocking methods preferred to log in to gambling apps

Biometric security

Singapore leads (15%) with the largest proportion of consumers who prefer biometric security to log in to or stay logged in to gambling apps. Australia (14%), Great Britain (12%) and Spain (12%) follow.

Poland, US and Germany (7% each) make up the markets whose consumers are least likely to opt for this option.

Manually entering password

France (20%) accounts for the largest proportion of consumers who prefer logging in to their gambling apps by manually entering passwords. Polling data shows that this feature is popular in markets like Australia (17%) and Spain (16%) as well.

Italy, Poland and the US (9% each) account for the lowest share of consumers who prefer manually entering passwords to log into gambling apps.

‘Remember password’ feature, OTP or code and authentication apps

As for consumers who opt for the ‘remember password’ feature, Australia leads (12%), followed by Canada (9%), whereas consumers in Singapore and Italy (4% each) are least likely to follow suit.

Equal proportions of consumers in Australia and France (9%) prefer logging in via OTP or code - the most likely across all our markets to do so. Finally, Swedes lead (6%) in choosing authentication apps to log in to gambling apps.
